School to Prison Pipeline

This training, by Jeremy Allen with Southern Illinois University-Carbondale, will provide education on the school to prison pipeline and how schools have historically instituted harsher discipline strategies for students of color. This training will provide facts regarding the long-term effects of this phenomena and how it greatly impacts positive outcomes for young people of color.

Objectives:
1. Gain insight into the impact of racism related to how individuals interact with children
2. Gain knowledge regarding the damage of labeling a child and how this label can become a self-fulfilling prophecy
3. Learn about effects of negative disciplinary strategies
4. Learn the long-term results of this phenomena
5. Solution-focused discussion regarding this phenomena
